Temenos is a very large sculpture designed for artist Anish Kapoor as part of the Tees Valley Giants sculpture commission for Middlesbrough, UK.
The sculpture measures 100m long x 40m wide x 50m high making it one of the largest public sculptures ever made.
The £2.7m sculpture completed in 2010 consists of a carefully tailored form-found tensile cablenet stretched between two large steel rings. A circular ring at one end is anchored at ground level while the other oval ring is suspended in mid air from a tall guyed steel mast.
Tristan Simmonds worked from a simple conceptual model made from a pair of tights to develop a form and structural geometry that is at the limit of balance and equilibrium.
